On 3rd November, Year 9s and GCSE Drama students were able to see yet another fantastic show by Theatre Centre,
a play called Rise Up, by award winning playwright Lisa Evans.
Rise Up is the story of the Freedom Riders, principled citizens riding buses across Alabama and Mississippi, drawing attention to illegal discrimination, and facing up to terrifying violence with employing peaceful resistance. The show was engaging and thought provoking, challenging the students to think about what happened and to remember the people in history who have stood up to ensure we have our current freedoms and enjoy equality. After the show, year 10 GCSE students were given a workshop session with two of the actors, exploring some of the concepts of the
