For this year’s annual production the Creative Arts Faculty produced the show ‘Our House’, a west End Musical Theatre piece set to the music by the hit band Madness. Students have been working hard since September, rehearsing at least twice a week, demonstrating commitment and dedication as performers, backstage crew, set and prop designers, technicians in lighting and sound, photographers and so much more. Feedback and reviews have been immensely positive, one review stating, “ It always amazes me the professionalism of the students…”. Mrs Hunter and all of the staff involved would like to express how proud they are of all the hard work students put in, their effort, enthusiasm and commitment is very commendable. Well Done to everyone involved. On Wednesday 21st January, dance students from Studio 79 came to Rushey Mead to provide a technical dance workshop for selected students. This evening consisted of a two hour workshop in which students had the opportunity to develop their dance skills and engage in choreographic tasks. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and worked hard to impress the Studio 79 dancers.
To showcase their hard work, the students will be choreographing a performance piece based on the workshop which will be performed in the Dance Showcase later this year. Creative Arts would like to announce that tickets are now on sale for it's annual production, this year it's "Our House"
Students and staff have been working incredibly hard, whether they are actors, singers, musicians, backstage and technical or many other roles. The faculty of Creative Arts would like to congratulate the following students:
Chloe Thiara and Tammica Nyamuka for passing their grade 3 vocal exam, achieving a merit, and Hakeem Ali for passing his grade 1 vocal exam. All the students worked really hard in the build up to their exam, all whilst having to balance the pressures of their GCSE studies. The faculty of Creative Arts are very proud of their achievement. On Monday 8th December, four dance students Shivani Patel, Karina Kava, Kira Hill and Jade Shergold took part in a regional dance competition at the City of Leicester College. These students went up against other dance students from schools and colleges in the surrounding area and came first in the ‘groups’ category, bringing home a dance trophy for Rushey Mead School.
The students worked extremely hard to collaboratively choreograph a dance piece based on the theme of Bullying. The judges were particularly impressed with the quality of their piece and the imagination behind it. A huge congratulations to these students on their success. Every year, GCSE drama students in year 10 work on a piece of original drama to be presented to the whole school in assemblies. This years’ brief was based on ‘Contrasts’ and students explored the contrasting ways a hero is perceived in society. The focused on 3 different conflicts, World War 1, the 9/11 terrorist acts in 2001 and the current Syria conflict where people are joining ISIS. Ultimately the drama reminded the audience that when someone is award the status of ‘hero’, it usually means someone has lost a loved one.
how the students were able to manage such a complex subject matter.
All the students involved should be very proud of themselves and take what they have learnt from this forward in preparation for their Unit 3 GCSE Mock exam, where they will have to devise a piece of Drama that would be worth 40% of their whole GCSE. Creative Arts would like to congratulate students, who recently passed their instrumental exams.
The students are Parisha, Siddhi, Arjan and Dhirali, all of which successfully passed their grade 1 piano exams. Instrumental exams are very tough and take many weeks of disciplined practice and coaching to be ready. They have to perform 3 pieces that they prepare beforehand, but they also have a number of technical tests to complete. Also, we would like to congratulate Nethmini, for successfully completing her grade 4 piano with a merit. She completed this independently outside of school and she manages to balance this with also preparing for singing exams, and her school work. All the students should be very proud of their results and the work they put in preparing for the exam. On Wednesday 3rd December, students had the opportunity to observe a professional dance performance by Studio 79. The Leicester based dance company provided a versatile performance, demonstrating a range of dance styles including, Cabaret, Street Dance and Contemporary. Students also had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with the dancers, giving them an insight into the life of a dancer. Studio 79 will be back in the near future to provide technical dance workshops for students.
